Keynote Speaker

 

 

Barry S. Olsen is an associate professor of translation and interpretation at the Middlebury Institute (MIIS). He has worked as a conference interpreter and translator since 1993. Before joining the faculty at MIIS, he was a translator in residence at American University in Washington, D.C. Professor Olsen has taught numerous simultaneous and consecutive interpretation, and training-of-trainers, courses in the United States, Latin America and Europe. His research focuses on interpreting and technology with an emphasis on remote interpreting platforms. He is a member of the Training Committee of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC), the founder and co-president of InterpretAmerica, an entity dedicated to raising the profile of interpreting, and General Manager of Multilingual Operations at ZipDX, a Silicon Valley tech company providing remote simultaneous interpretation of conference calls and webinars. Professor Olsen writes a monthly column and accompanying YouTube video called  "The Tech-Savvy Interpreter" that has over 11 thousand subscribers. He is the co-inventor on two patents for multilingual conferencing with simultaneous interpretation.  He holds a B.A. in Translation from Brigham Young University and an M.A. in Conference Interpretation from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. Douglas J. Strock is the Vice President of Global Language Translations and Consulting, Inc. Prior to joining GLTaC, Doug worked as a globlal project leader at the Dow Corning Corporation. In addition, Doug has served in the Army for 30 years in a wide variety of assignments. He is the immediate past president of the Association of Language Companies and is a voting member of ASTM Committee F43.05. Doug has an MBA from Oklahoma City University and studied aerospace engineering at the United States Military Academy

 

Rick Woyde is the founder and inventor of Pairaphrase and the Managing Director for Language Arts & Science. He is a recognized translation subject matter expert and has worked in the translation industry for over 25 years. Rick has been an invited speaker at almost every translation industry conference, including the ATA, Localization World, LISA and IMTT and has published articles for almost every language publication. Rick chaired the SAE J2450 Translation Quality Metric committee from 2000 – 2005 and in 2005 was awarded the “Outstanding Contributions Award” from the SAE.
