Membership

All members have an open invitation to MiTiN business meetings and networking events. They also receive a discount on admission to MiTiN seminars and conferences. Professional and corporate members receive a listing in the online MiTiN Professional Members Directory.

How to become a member

There are two steps to becoming a MiTiN member:

1. Pay the membership fee at our secure payment page.

2. Fill out and submit a membership form online.

Professional / Individual members should fill out the Individual form.

Associate members should fill out the Associate form.

Corporate members should fill out the Corporate form.

Combined members should fill out the Combined form.

Important things to remember about applying for membership:

  • Your membership will not be processed until payment is received.
  • Your membership will not be processed until the membership form is submitted.
  • Membership forms must contain proper spelling, capitalization and punctuation, because this information goes into the directory. The MiTiN staff are not your proofreaders, and they may not correct your mistakes.
  • Remember that sloppy writing (such as names in all lowercase letters, misspelled city names, etc.) make you look like an amateur.

Membership Categories

MiTiN has four categories of membership. PLEASE NOTE: The Associate Membership rate has been reduced to $35.00 for 2015. The Professional Individual Membership rate will increase to $45.00 for 2015.

Professional individual member ($45 annual dues), defined as an individual who supports the purposes of MiTiN and earns income based on language skill on a full-time or part-time basis, as a freelance or an employed linguist. Professional members may vote, attend all meetings and functions, and hold any office or position in MiTiN. Professional members are listed under their personal names.

Corporate/institutional member ($50 annual dues), defined as a company/institution that supports the purposes of MiTiN and generates revenues by selling language services such as interpreting, translating, and/or teaching. The head of the company or language department, or his/her designee, may vote and attend all meetings and functions, and hold any office or position in MiTiN. Members who wish to be listed under a company name must register as corporate members.

Associate member ($35 annual dues), defined as anyone who supports the purposes of MiTiN but is not a practicing translator or interpreter. Associate members are not shown in the professional member directory. They may be students, people who wish to participate in MiTiN events but have not yet begun work as translators or interpreters, or those outside the language services field who wish to support MiTiNs objectives. Associate members cannot vote or hold office.

Combined Membership ($75.00 annual dues), defined as having both an individual and corporate membership.

Please note that all applications are subject to approval of the Board of Directors, and timely payment of annual dues is required for continuing membership. ANNUAL DUES FOR THE FOLLOWING YEAR ARE PAYABLE EACH DECEMBER 1st. MEMBERS ARE NOT INVOICED FOR ANNUAL DUES, SO PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDAR.
